Climate Action Network Europe is looking for a Steel Transformation Policy Coordinator

Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe), recognized as Europe's leading network working on climate and energy issues, is currently seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and results-driven Steel Transformation Policy Coordinator to join our team in Brussels. This position will offer the
successful candidate an opportunity to be at the center of the largest movement for global change that will affect people and the planet for centuries to come.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Industrial Transformation Policy Coordinator on several topics related to EU steel industry transformation, including the development of industry-specific elements to meet European Green Deal objectives. The topics include relevant legislation such as the EU ETS, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, sustainable products initiative, and the Industrial Emissions Directive, as well as non-legislative bodies created to implement the EU industrial strategy. The work will include the coordination of NGO engagement on these and related initiatives relevant to the transformation of the EU steel industry. S/he will closely work together with other policy coordinators in the CAN Europe team, and with experts in the broad CAN Network all over Europe.
Required qualifications
Minimum 3 years relevant professional experience;
Working knowledge of EU institutions and processes, and in particular of climate, industry and environment policy;
Knowledge of climate and industry issues;
Experience of working with NGOs, preferably in a network environment;
Experience in advocacy work;
Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, time management, flexibility, and reliability;
Ability to produce results according to schedule and respecting deadlines;
Fluent written and spoken English; excellent communication skills;
Ability to work on multiple issues in parallel.
Preferred/desirable qualifications
Experience with EU climate and industry policy development;
Experience in fundraising and reporting would be an asset;
Experience in writing research papers, reports.
Main duties will include
Work with CAN Europe secretariat colleagues to develop a steel-specific narrative that can also apply to wider energy-intensive industries, building upon work undertaken on industry-specific elements, and economic, financing and Just Transition/Transformation aspects;
Undertake and support advocacy and outreach activities on EU industrial policy and related legislative initiatives relevant to the transformation of the EU steel industry;
Gather intelligence, follow EU policy development and regularly update network and partners;
Contribute to preparation of narratives, briefings and papers for policy makers in Brussels and in capitals;
Represent our network and do advocacy and lobby work;
Contribute to fundraising efforts related to relevant policy dossiers.

The location of this position is flexible, and remuneration will be defined accordingly. If the position would be based in our headquarters in Brussels, a Belgian open-ended contract will be provided with a projected salary between 3 300,0 EUR and 4 200,0 EUR gross/month depending on the years of relevant experience (from 0 to 20 years) and subject to Belgian taxes. Extra benefits include lunch vouchers, phone compensation and home-working allowance (replacing local transport support due to Covid restrictions).
Please note that the title of Coordinator refers to CAN Europe's role as coordinator of our 180+ member network and not to internal management responsibilities.
